FIRST OFF THE RESTAURANT IS NOW LOCATED AT 311 DALHOUSIE

Very good thai food. Amazing salad rolls. My friend and I just moved from Winnipeg and we both were fans of the restaurant Vientienne where we religiously ate red curry soup, and rice rolls. But the rice rolls were always fresh and not rubbery (right thickness of rice paper, right filling (mix of salad, rice noodles, herbs, chicken, etc.). These rolls were exactly that!!! and then yes, the sauce. So typically thai restaurants accompany their rolls with thick peanut sauce (BORING!!!!). At Vientienne (our fave back in the peg-city) the sauce resembles a vinaigrette, with peanut flavour. ROYAL THAI hit it on the head. Their sauce is amazing and even served a little on the warm side to counter the coolness of the roll. These are a definate MUST!
Price is very reasonnable. I had an appetizer of rolls (2) and a main dish with rice to accompany (for 1.30 extra lol). All cost me 20$. You can't go wrong.

Some dim sum items were excellent: the turnip patties and the beef balls. Other items were just okay: the chicken feet. And some were pretty bad: the taro dumplings. These are all items I normally love, but my experience here was mixed.

And they provided forks and fortune cookies - not authentic at all.

Service was both friendly and prompt, no complaints there!

Adequate service, but not great, could use improvement.
Water glass dirty, lip and food prints on it, can't help but make you question cleanliness.
Servers rushing around but food was slow, prices bit high, but enjoyed the pad thai.

It was $40 for two of us to have appetizers, snacks, lunch and tea, right in the byward market. The service was FANTASTIC: my dining buddy has a shellfish allergy and they were so accommodating, we had ordered a chicken curry and the server came back out to tell us that there was shrimp in the curry paste, he had gone back and checked the ingredients to ensure we'd be safe. He suggested a few other dishes we could have that he was certain would be safe.  Food was excellent, the general Tao chicken was TO DIE FOR. We will definitely be coming back to this little gem. We didn't have the dim sum because of the aforementioned allergy, but it smelled amazing every time the cart went past!

Out of all the Chinese restaurants in Ottawa I find this one consistently the best though there seems to be a high premium for this.

I find the dim sum really fresh (though my friend had a bad experience recently) and things taste home made.  A few other places taste like store bought dim sum that has been heated in the restaurant.

The carts seem to come very slowly and in spurts but the food is decent.

They recently had Royal Thai move into the same space.  I think they have the same owner.
